GW Lisner Auditorium presents
Gilberto Gil
The String Concert

featuring Jaques Morelenbaum & Bem Gil

In both the pop and world music idioms, Gilberto Gil has developed a career that has spanned four decades with over 30 albums released and multiple Grammy Awards.

Largely known as a guitarist and singer/songwriter, world music pioneer Gilberto Gil is also proficient on drums, trumpet and accordion. His music incorporates an eclectic range of influences, from reggae, samba and forró to rock and African music.

A leader of Brazil's Tropicália movement in the late 1960s,  Gil has released more than 30 albums, including Expresso 2222, Nightingale, Eletracústico and Banda Larga Cordel, and served as Brazil's Minister of Culture from 2003-2008.

"There may have been one man onstage, but there was enough warmth, love, intelligence and sheer talent on display to power an orchestra." -Variety
